In this eight-week workshop the instructor ceramic artist Kate Butler will begin by guiding students through exercises in four different hand-building techniques — pinching, coiling, slab-building and carving, as well as strategies for glazing and/or finishing, before inviting students to pursue projects of their own. 

Tutorials are supported by brief lectures on issues on contemporary ceramic art. 

Students receive weekly packets of readings and artist examples as an invitation to consider the broader value and possible applications of the techniques.
